Samsung or LG Refrigerator: Which to Choose in 2026

Updated November 6, 2026. Written by Binyamin Elkalay. Compared on specs and Israeli shop prices, no lab testing.

Short answer: there is no single winner. Samsung is strong in 4-door fridges with a ⁦60 cm⁩ body depth and a flex compartment, and in a 10-year compressor warranty. LG is strong on price: a 438-liter top freezer for under ₪3,000 (NIS) and a 665-liter 4-door for about ₪7,500. In a ⁦60 cm⁩ bottom freezer both offer a model with a Shabbat mode certified by the Scientific-Technological Institute for Halacha, for about ₪⁦7,500–9,000.⁩

We did not test the fridges physically. The comparison is based on specs from product pages, a price comparison page and the warranty terms listed in Israeli stores in November 2026. The really big difference is not the brand but the model: within each brand there are efficient and wasteful models, with and without certified Shabbat mode.

What to look at before buying

What to checkWhat it isOur recommendation
Warranty and importerFor Samsung, official fridge warranty is provided through Newpro of the Newpan group; for LG the official importer is Brimag, with a Brimag Digital warranty certificate.Samsung: one year plus 10 years on the compressor on most models we saw. LG: one year plus 9 years on the compressor. Make sure the page is marked official importer.
Shabbat modeBoth brands have models with Shabbat mode certified by an institute, and models listing a Shabbat mode without an institute's name.Certified by the Scientific-Technological Institute for Halacha per product pages: Samsung RB35C6225, LG R-2B394BINS and LG GR-930BDIS. For the rest, ask for written certification.
Width and depthBoth brands sell a ⁦59.5 cm⁩ wide bottom freezer and a ⁦91–⁦91.4 cm⁩⁩ wide 4-door fridge. The difference is depth.Samsung RF70DB9125BK: ⁦60 cm⁩ body depth. LG GR-728: ⁦68 cm⁩ without doors. In a kitchen where depth is critical, Samsung leads.
Power useOn the new label almost all are E; the differences in kWh per year are large. In a ⁦60 cm⁩ bottom freezer: ⁦249 kWh⁩ for LG and 254 for Samsung, almost identical. In 4-door: ⁦350–368⁩ for Samsung vs ⁦420–460⁩ for LG.
Flex compartment and featuresSamsung has a Cool Select+ compartment that switches from freezer to fridge on some 4-door models. If you host for holidays, a flex compartment is worth the extra. A screen, Wi-Fi and door-in-door usually are not.
Price per literOn the product pages we saw, LG offers large fridges at a lower price, especially in top freezers and some 4-door models. For a budget up to ₪3,000: LG GR-B486IVSU. For a 4-door around ₪⁦6,000–7,500⁩: compare the Samsung RF60C7012SL against the LG GR-728.
Parallel importSome Samsung fridges are also sold as parallel imports, with warranty from another company. We saw the Samsung RF72DG9620B1 marked "official importer: no", with warranty from Sam Line. If the price looks too good, check who provides the warranty.

Samsung or LG fridge: what is the main difference?

The main difference is warranty, depth and price: per the product pages Samsung gives 10 years on the compressor and 4-door models with a shallow body, and LG gives more liters per shekel, especially on a low budget.

Summary by category, based on the models we saw in stores:

  • Top freezer: LG leads. The GR-B486IVSU gives 438 liters for about ₪⁦2,700–3,100.⁩ Among the Samsung models we saw we found no direct equivalent at this price.
  • ⁦60 cm⁩ bottom freezer: a tie. The Samsung RB35C6225 (344 liters, ⁦254 kWh⁩) and LG R-2B394BINS (349 liters, ⁦249 kWh⁩) are almost identical in capacity, consumption and price, and both have a Shabbat mode certified by the Scientific-Technological Institute for Halacha per the product pages. Samsung has a zero-clearance design.
  • Mid-range 4-door: the LG GR-728 gives 665 liters and a large freezer for about ₪7,500 but uses ⁦460 kWh⁩. The Samsung RF60C7012SL sells in a wide range of about ₪⁦5,900–8,500⁩ and uses about ⁦362 kWh⁩.
  • Premium 4-door: Samsung offers a ⁦60 cm⁩ deep body and a flex compartment; LG offers 842 liters.
  • Built-in fridge: at Samsung we found several models with ⁦10–20⁩ years of compressor warranty; LG built-in models were not included in this review.

In short: if budget decides, start with LG. If depth, the flex compartment or the long compressor warranty decide, start with Samsung. Either way, decide first on type and dimensions with our general best refrigerator guide.

What not to compare: the number of features on the product page. Both brands name technologies with different marketing names, like Digital Inverter vs Smart Inverter or Inverter Linear. They are all inverter compressors that vary speed. What is worth comparing is the numbers: net liters, kWh per year, width and depth, and years of compressor warranty.

Support and service: for both brands service is provided by a local company: Newpro for Samsung and Brimag for LG, per the product pages. Before buying, find out the technician arrival time in your area, especially if you live outside the center of the country. The seller or importer's call center can give you this by phone.

⁦60 cm⁩ bottom freezer: Samsung RB35C6225 vs LG R-2B394BINS

The two models are almost identical: about 345 liters, ⁦59.5 cm⁩ wide, about ⁦250 kWh⁩ consumption and a Shabbat mode certified by the Scientific-Technological Institute for Halacha; choose Samsung if zero-clearance matters to you, and LG if you find it cheaper.

The comparison per product pages:

  • Capacity: Samsung 344 liters (230 fridge, 114 freezer). LG 349 liters (239 fridge, 110 freezer).
  • Dimensions: Samsung 59.5 × 185 × ⁦65.8 cm⁩, ⁦59.5 cm⁩ body. LG 59.5 × 186 × ⁦67.6 cm⁩, ⁦61 cm⁩ without doors.
  • Zero-clearance: on Samsung, per the product page, the doors are flat and open to 90 degrees to line up with ⁦70 cm⁩ deep units. On LG this is not stated.
  • Consumption: Samsung ⁦254 kWh⁩. LG ⁦249 kWh⁩. Both class E on the new standard.
  • Compressor: Samsung Digital Inverter with a 10-year warranty. LG Smart Inverter, with Brimag warranty.
  • Shabbat mode: on Samsung, per the product page, certified by the Scientific-Technological Institute for Halacha. On LG, per the product pages, mehadrin Shabbat certified by the same institute.
  • Price: Samsung about ₪⁦7,500–8,000.⁩ LG about ₪⁦8,100–9,000.⁩

Who each one is for: in a kitchen where the fridge stands between cabinets, Samsung's zero-clearance is a real advantage. If the fridge stands at the end, the difference is negligible, and the price on the day of purchase will decide. If you need more capacity at the same width, see below Samsung's 580-liter bottom freezer, which is ⁦84 cm⁩ wide.

The color question: per stores, the Samsung RB35C6225 comes in several finishes, like white (WH), black (BK) and a sahara shade, and the LG R-2B394BINS in black stainless. In Samsung's Bespoke ranges the price can vary by color. Make sure you are comparing exactly the same code.

Warranty extension: per the Traklin website, Brimag offers a two-year extension for ₪599 on LG bottom-freezer fridges. On the Samsung RB35C6225 the compressor warranty is already 10 years in the price, per the product page. If you are torn between the two models, factor this in.

4-door fridge: Samsung vs LG

In 4-door, LG gives more freezer capacity at a lower price, and Samsung gives lower consumption, a shallower body and a flex compartment; for Shabbat observers, LG has models where the institute's name appears on the page.

The models we saw on product pages:

  • LG GR-728S: 665 liters (404 / 261), 91.4 × 178.7 × ⁦72.5 cm⁩, ⁦460 kWh⁩, Shabbat-keeping certified by a halachic institute. About ₪⁦7,200–7,700.⁩
  • LG GR-930BDIS: 842 liters (468 / 361), 91.4 × ⁦179.2 cm⁩, very deep, ⁦420 kWh⁩, mehadrin Shabbat certified by the Scientific-Technological Institute for Halacha. About ₪⁦13,000–13,500.⁩
  • Samsung RF60C7012SL: ⁦649–664⁩ liters, 91 × 177.9 × ⁦73 cm⁩, about ⁦362 kWh⁩, Shabbat mode per store listings. About ₪⁦5,900–8,500.⁩
  • Samsung RF70DB9125BK: 636 liters, ⁦60 cm⁩ deep body, ⁦350 kWh⁩, Cool Select+ compartment, Shabbat mode. About ₪⁦13,500–14,000.⁩
  • Samsung RF72DG9620B1: 678 liters, ⁦61.5 cm⁩ body, ⁦368 kWh⁩, flex compartment up to 546 liters of fridge space.

What stands out: LG's 842-liter fridge uses less per the spec than LG's 665-liter. And all the Samsung 4-door models we saw use less than the LG GR-728. If electricity matters to you, that is a point for Samsung or for the GR-930BDIS.

For the full guide, including Sharp, Haier and Tadiran models, see our 4-door refrigerator guide, and Sharp models in our Sharp refrigerator guide.

Depth in the kitchen: a standard countertop is about ⁦60 cm⁩ deep. Per the product pages, on the Samsung RF70DB9125BK the body is ⁦60 cm⁩ deep and ⁦68 cm⁩ with doors, on the LG GR-728 the body is ⁦68 cm⁩ deep and ⁦72.5 cm⁩ with doors, and on the LG GR-930BDIS depth without doors is ⁦80 cm⁩. The difference between 60 and ⁦80 cm⁩ is the difference between a fridge that looks part of the kitchen and one that sticks out into the passage.

Getting it in: on Samsung, per the product page, after removing the doors the body passes through ⁦62–⁦63 cm⁩⁩. For the ⁦91 cm⁩ models from both brands, ask the store whether the movers remove doors.

Top freezer and wide bottom freezer: what else both brands offer

Beyond the ⁦60 cm⁩ bottom freezer and the 4-door, LG offers a cheap 438-liter top freezer, and Samsung offers a wide 580-liter bottom freezer at ⁦84 cm⁩ wide with a mehadrin Shabbat mode.

LG GR-B486IVSU, top freezer: per the product page 438 liters (321 fridge and 117 freezer), 70 × 178 × ⁦73 cm⁩, No Frost and Smart Inverter, for about ₪⁦2,700–3,100⁩ with Brimag Digital warranty. It is the cheapest fridge in the comparison, and suits a ⁦70 cm⁩ niche. The page does not show a Shabbat mode or annual consumption.

Samsung RB60DS35ESA, wide bottom freezer: per the product page 580 liters (403 fridge and 177 freezer), 84 × 186 × ⁦75 cm⁩, No Frost, Digital Inverter and a mehadrin Shabbat mode, with one year plus 9 years on the compressor. The price on the page was about ₪5,150, but at the time of writing it was temporarily out of stock, so we did not include it in the picks. If it comes back in stock, it is an interesting alternative to a 4-door fridge: about the same capacity, at a smaller width.

Samsung RB45DG600ES9 and RB53DG703: stores also list Samsung bottom freezers of 458 and 538 liters. We did not open their spec pages, so we did not go into details; if you need a capacity between 350 and 580 liters, ask the seller for the dimensions and Shabbat mode details.

How to choose between types: a top freezer gives the most liters per shekel and uses little, but the freezer is on top. A wide bottom freezer gives 4-door convenience in less width and for less money, with one wide fridge door. A 4-door fridge gives the most flexibility and also the most depth. The comparison between all types is in our best refrigerator guide.

Also watch for stock changes: at the time of writing several Samsung models were marked temporarily out of stock in the store we checked. If the model you chose is unavailable, do not swap it for a similar code without rechecking dimensions and Shabbat mode.

Shabbat mode on Samsung and LG

Both brands have models with a Shabbat mode certified by the Scientific-Technological Institute for Halacha per the product pages, and models listing a Shabbat mode without an institute's name; the exact model code decides.

With an institute's name on the product page:

  • Samsung RB35C6225: certified by the Scientific-Technological Institute for Halacha.
  • LG R-2B394BINS: mehadrin Shabbat certified by the Scientific-Technological Institute for Halacha.
  • LG GR-930BDIS: mehadrin Shabbat certified by the Scientific-Technological Institute for Halacha.
  • LG GR-728: Shabbat-keeping certified by a halachic institute.

Shabbat mode without an institute's name on the page:

  • Samsung RF70DB9125BK and RF72DG9620B1: built-in Shabbat mode.
  • Samsung RB60DS35ESA: described as mehadrin, without an institute's name.
  • Samsung BRB80F26CEF0 (built-in): mehadrin Shabbat mode.

No Shabbat mode on the page: LG GR-B486IVSU.

How to activate on Samsung: per the product pages, press two buttons for 6 seconds, press again while the display flashes, and cancel with a 6-second press. On the built-in fridge you press Fridge and Door alarm for 5 seconds.

Tip: on Samsung we also saw versions sold under a mehadrin name for the same series. If you see two similar codes, ask what the difference is. And on a parallel-import fridge, make sure the Shabbat mode exists and is set up at all.

Questions to ask the seller: whether the certification covers the full model including the finish; what happens with the fan, light and open-door beep in Shabbat mode; how long the mode stays active; and whether a fridge with a flex compartment or screen has additional limitations. Better to get the answers in writing, for example a photo of the certificate.

Warranty: Newpro vs Brimag, and parallel import

Per the product pages, official-importer Samsung fridges come with one year plus 10 years on the compressor through Newpro, and LG fridges with one year plus 9 years on the compressor through Brimag; in both cases the extension covers only the compressor.

Samsung:

  • The official warranty provider on product pages: Newpro, of the Newpan group. The RF60C7012SL comparison page also shows listings with Samsung Israel as official importer.
  • RB35C6225 and RF70DB9125BK: one year plus 10 years on the compressor.
  • RB60DS35ESA: one year plus 9 years on the compressor.
  • On some built-ins, like the BRB266030WW and BRB80F30AES0: 20 years on the compressor per the product pages.

LG:

  • The official importer: Brimag, and product pages show a Brimag Digital warranty certificate.
  • GR-728 and GR-930BDIS: one year plus 9 years on the compressor only.
  • Per the Traklin website, Brimag offers a two-year warranty extension for ₪599 on bottom-freezer fridges.

Parallel import: we saw the Samsung RF72DG9620B1 sold for about ₪14,000 marked "official importer: no", with a one-year warranty from Sam Line. On a fridge costing about ₪14,000, the difference between 10 years on the compressor and one year is significant. If you are considering a parallel import (yevu makbil), check who sends a technician, how fast, and whether spare parts exist.

What the warranty does not include: for both brands the extension covers only the compressor. The electronic board, fans, sensors, seals and drawers are covered in the first year. Report delivery damage immediately, and a fault caused by an unauthorized technician may void the warranty. Keep the invoice and warranty certificate together.

Bottom line: which brand to choose for your situation

Budget up to ₪3,000: LG. ⁦60 cm⁩ niche and Shabbat: either, by the price on the day you buy. 4-door with shallow depth and a flex compartment: Samsung. 4-door with a large freezer on a mid-range budget: LG.

  • Students, young couples and rentals: LG GR-B486IVSU, 438 liters for under ₪3,000.
  • Apartment with a ⁦60 cm⁩ niche and Shabbat observance: Samsung RB35C6225 if the fridge stands between cabinets, LG R-2B394BINS if you find it cheaper.
  • Family of 5 or more on a budget of about ₪7,500: LG GR-728, provided ⁦460 kWh⁩ consumption does not bother you.
  • Family that wants an efficient 4-door at a mid-range price: Samsung RF60C7012SL; compare prices, because the range between stores is wide.
  • Designer kitchen where the fridge should stick out little: Samsung RF70DB9125BK.
  • Very large family: LG GR-930BDIS, 842 liters.

If you want a fridge that goes completely inside the cabinets, see our built-in refrigerator guide. If you are short on freezer space, consider a separate freezer. And if you are also considering Sharp, see our Sharp refrigerator guide.

How to close the deal: once you have chosen a model, look it up in several stores by the full code. On the Samsung RF60C7012SL comparison page we saw a gap of about ₪2,500 between the cheapest and most expensive store. Check that the price includes delivery and bringing it in, that the page is marked official importer, and that the warranty provider's name appears: Newpro for Samsung and Brimag for LG. If the cheapest price comes from an unknown seller, ask before paying who supplies the fridge and when.

And if you are replacing other appliances too, both brands also sell washing machines; our comparison is in our best washing machine guide.

The bottom line

Samsung official warranty: Newpro (Newpan group). LG official importer: Brimag.
