Best Freezer in Israel: 2026 Buying Guide

Updated November 6, 2026. Written by Binyamin Elkalay. Compared on specs and Israeli shop prices, no lab testing.

Short answer: for most families, the best freezer in Israel is a 6-drawer upright of ⁦160–220⁩ liters (about ⁦5.7–7.8⁩ cu ft), ⁦54–⁦71 cm⁩⁩ wide, which costs about ₪⁦1,100–2,700⁩ (NIS) per store prices. At about ₪⁦1,700–2,700⁩ you get No Frost; below that, defrosting is semi-automatic. A chest freezer of about 200 liters costs about ₪1,700 and suits people who freeze large quantities in a storeroom or service balcony.

We did not test the freezers physically. The recommendations are based on specs from product pages and prices we saw in Israeli stores in November 2026. The two key decisions are the type (upright or chest) and the defrost type (No Frost or manual); everything else follows from them.

What to look at before buying

What to checkWhat it isOur recommendation
Type: upright or chestAn upright freezer (6 drawers) looks like a narrow fridge organized in drawers; a chest freezer is a box with a top lid.For the home and service balcony: a 6-drawer freezer. For a storeroom, batch cooking or an institutional kitchen: a chest freezer, which gives more liters per shekel.
CapacityUpright freezers range from about 156 to 220 liters; chest freezers go from 99 to 700 liters.Second freezer for a family: ⁦160–220⁩ liters. Cooking and freezing for a week or two: 200 liters and up. Events and big cooking: a chest freezer of 400 liters and up.
No Frost or manual defrostNo Frost prevents ice buildup with a fan and automatic defrost. With semi-automatic defrost (De-Frost) you need to empty and defrost it every so often. If the freezer is used daily, pay the difference for No Frost. If it is a second freezer opened rarely, manual defrost saves a few hundred shekels.
DimensionsA narrow 6-drawer freezer is ⁦54–⁦55 cm⁩⁩ wide and ⁦141–⁦171 cm⁩⁩ high; a wide model is ⁦71 cm⁩ wide and about ⁦152 cm⁩ high.On a narrow service balcony: ⁦54–⁦55 cm⁩⁩. If you have width but limited height (for example under a window or shelf): a wide, low model.
Power use and energy labelCheap freezers are rated E or F under the new standard, and sometimes not rated at all. Some pages list daily consumption.Look for a kWh figure. ⁦0.9 kWh⁩ per day, as on the Normande NF-426 page, is about ⁦330 kWh⁩ a year. Do not place a freezer in direct sun.
LocationMany freezers in Israel stand on a service balcony (mirpeset sherut) or in a storeroom, where summer temperatures are high.Check the climate class and the ambient temperature range the freezer is designed for in the spec, and leave ventilation space behind it.

Which freezer to buy: 6-drawer upright or chest?

For most homes in Israel a 6-drawer upright freezer is the right choice, because it takes little floor space and makes things easy to find; a chest freezer suits people who freeze large quantities and have room in a storeroom or on a balcony.

6-drawer freezer (upright):

  • Looks like a narrow fridge, ⁦54–⁦71 cm⁩⁩ wide.
  • Transparent or semi-transparent drawers: you can see what is in each one.
  • Capacities we saw on product pages: ⁦156–220⁩ liters.
  • Some models have No Frost.

Chest freezer:

  • A box with a top lid, about ⁦84 cm⁩ high.
  • Capacities from 99 to 700 liters in the stores we checked.
  • More liters per shekel, and when you open the lid the cold air stays inside because it is heavier.
  • Some models can also work as a fridge, like the General GE270MCIX.
  • The downside: you have to bend, dig and organize in baskets, and defrosting is usually manual.

Built-in freezer: there are also freezers that go inside a kitchen cabinet, like the Siemens GI81NACE0, ⁦177.2 cm⁩ high, per the Siemens site. It suits people planning a kitchen with two tall columns: a built-in fridge without a freezer and a freezer next to it.

Before deciding on an extra freezer, check whether your current fridge is enough. A large 4-door fridge gives ⁦216–361⁩ liters of freezer space per product pages, and sometimes that solves the problem without another appliance. The comparison of fridge types is in our best refrigerator guide.

A question of habits: a family that buys meat on sale, freezes challot and cakes for several Shabbatot or cooks ahead for the week will fill a 200-liter freezer fast. A family that buys few frozen products mainly needs room for ice cream and frozen vegetables, and an extra freezer will stand half empty and waste electricity. Before buying, empty your current freezer and count what is really in it.

6-drawer freezer: dimensions and capacity

A narrow 6-drawer freezer is ⁦54–⁦55 cm⁩⁩ wide and ⁦141–⁦171 cm⁩⁩ high with ⁦156–206⁩ liters, and a wide model is ⁦71 cm⁩ wide and about ⁦152 cm⁩ high with 220 liters.

Dimensions we saw on product pages:

  • Premier PF162W: 162 liters (156 net), 54.5 × 141 × ⁦56.5 cm⁩, 43 kg. Semi-automatic defrost.
  • Crown CFD6NWEU: 175 liters, 54 × 145.5 × ⁦59.5 cm⁩, No Frost. Temporarily out of stock at the time of writing.
  • DeLonghi DLF244EU: 172 liters net, 54 × 145.5 × ⁦59.5 cm⁩, No Frost. Temporarily out of stock at the time of writing.
  • Sachs EFR-206NF: 204 liters, 55 × 170 × ⁦60 cm⁩, No Frost and inverter compressor. Temporarily out of stock at the time of writing.
  • Normande NF-426: 206 liters, 54 × 170 × ⁦54.7 cm⁩, No Frost, ⁦0.9 kWh⁩ per day. Temporarily out of stock at the time of writing.
  • Blomberg FNT3661WP: 220 liters, 71 × 151.5 × ⁦59.7 cm⁩, No Frost, one shelf and five drawers.

What this tells you: at ⁦54–⁦55 cm⁩⁩ wide, every ⁦25–⁦30 cm⁩⁩ of height adds about ⁦30–40⁩ liters. If you have ⁦71 cm⁩ of width, you can get 220 liters at a height of only ⁦151.5 cm⁩, which fits even under a service balcony window.

Small freezer: if you are looking for an especially small freezer, the lowest upright models we saw start at ⁦141 cm⁩ high. Below that you will mostly find small chest freezers, like the 99-liter General GE101MCS, or a freezer compartment inside a small fridge. A very small mini-fridge-sized freezer is rare.

Stock: several of the No Frost upright freezers were marked temporarily out of stock in the store we checked. If the model you chose is unavailable, look for an alternative with the same dimensions, not just the same capacity.

How to organize a 6-drawer freezer: assign a drawer to each type: meat and chicken, fish, frozen vegetables, baked goods and bread, cooked food, and a top drawer for things opened every day. Some models, like the Blomberg FNT3661WP, have one top shelf and five drawers. Label containers and bags with the date, and freeze in flat bags to save space and thaw faster.

No Frost or manual defrost in a freezer

In a freezer opened every day, No Frost is worth the difference of about ₪⁦600–1,500,⁩ because it saves manual defrosting and keeps the full capacity; in a second freezer opened every few days, semi-automatic defrost is enough.

How it works: with No Frost, a fan circulates cold air and moisture collects on a coil that defrosts automatically. No ice layer forms on the walls and drawers. In a freezer with semi-automatic defrost (De-Frost) ice builds up, and every few months you need to empty the freezer, switch it off and let the ice melt.

The price difference we saw:

  • Premier PF162W, semi-automatic, 162 liters: about ₪1,100.
  • Sachs EFR-206NF, No Frost, 204 liters: about ₪1,700 (temporarily out of stock at the time of writing).
  • Normande NF-426, No Frost, 206 liters: about ₪1,750 (temporarily out of stock).
  • Blomberg FNT3661WP, No Frost, 220 liters: about ₪2,700.

When manual defrost is fine: a second freezer for meat and Shabbat baked goods, opened two or three times a week. Ice builds up slowly, and you can defrost every few months when the freezer is almost empty.

When No Frost is a must: a main freezer opened several times a day, a freezer on a humid balcony, and a home with no time or energy for defrosting. A thick ice layer also raises power use and makes the drawers hard to open.

In a chest freezer, defrosting is almost always manual. The General GE270MCIX page does not state the defrost type at all, so ask the seller.

How to defrost properly: move the contents to a cooler or the fridge, switch off or unplug the freezer, lay towels at the bottom and open the door. Do not use a knife or screwdriver to break ice, as it is easy to puncture the walls and cooling lines. After defrosting, wipe it dry, run the freezer empty until it reaches temperature, and only then put the food back.

Chest freezer: who is it for?

A chest freezer suits large families, batch cooking and people with a storeroom or large balcony; it gives lots of liters per shekel but is less convenient to organize than a 6-drawer freezer.

In the stores we checked there are General chest freezers of 99, 199, 400, 500 and 700 liters, and Premier ones of 152 and 520 liters.

The model we looked at in detail, General GE270MCIX: 199 liters, 82.3 × 55.6 × ⁦83.5 cm⁩. Per the product page it works both as a fridge at 6°C and as a freezer at -24°C, switching modes at the press of a button. That is useful before a holiday, when you need more room for drinks and pots. One-year warranty through Hidur Mutzarim.

Living with a chest freezer:

  • Use baskets: one for meat, one for frozen vegetables, one for baked goods. That way you do not have to dig to the bottom.
  • Label bags with the date, because things get forgotten at the bottom.
  • Leave room above the lid to open it fully.
  • Defrost when the ice reaches about half a centimeter thick.

Space: a 200-liter chest freezer takes about 82 × ⁦56 cm⁩ of floor, more than a narrow 6-drawer freezer. A ⁦500–700⁩ liter freezer mainly suits a storeroom, institution or small business.

Lid and safety: a chest freezer's lid is heavy and must open fully to reach things at the bottom. Do not put objects on it, and in a home with small children check whether it has a lock. A chest freezer also works as an extra work surface in a storeroom, but anything placed on it has to come off every time you open it.

Power use, location and the Israeli summer

A freezer runs 24 hours a day, so check the kWh consumption on the product page and place it somewhere shaded and ventilated, not in the sun on a service balcony.

What we found on product pages: many cheap freezer pages do not list annual consumption. The Normande NF-426 states ⁦0.9 kWh⁩ per day, which is about ⁦330 kWh⁩ a year by our calculation. That is like a whole 4-door fridge. Ratings under the new standard are E or F, and some pages do not state a rating. Only the DeLonghi DLF244EU is shown with an A rating, and the page does not make clear under which standard.

Location: many families in Israel put the freezer on the service balcony, in a storeroom or in a laundry room. In summer the temperature there can exceed 30°C, and the freezer will run almost nonstop. So:

  • Place the freezer on the shaded side, not facing a west-facing window.
  • Leave a few centimeters behind and on the sides for ventilation.
  • Do not place it next to a tumble dryer or water heater (dud).
  • Check the climate class in the spec: appliances marked tropical class (T) are designed to work in a hot environment.

Temperature: -18°C is the standard temperature for long-term storage. A colder setting raises consumption without real benefit for most food.

Power outage: during a power outage, keep the freezer closed. A full freezer stays cold longer than a half-empty one, and frozen water bottles filling empty spaces help keep the temperature low. After a long outage, check for food that has fully thawed, and do not refreeze it without cooking it first. If you live in an area with frequent outages, consider a thermometer with maximum-temperature memory inside the freezer.

Noise: a No Frost freezer also makes fan noise on top of the compressor, so a freezer in an open kitchen or next to a bedroom will be more noticeable than on a balcony. Most product pages we saw do not state a noise level, so if the freezer will stand indoors, ask the seller for the figure.

Freezers and Shabbat, warranty and delivery

The freezer pages we saw do not mention a Shabbat mode, so Shabbat observers need to check with the importer how the light, open-door alert and fan behave; warranty on all of them is one year per the importer's certificate.

Shabbat: with a mechanical thermostat and no interior light, the question is relatively simple. With No Frost, a digital display or an open-door alert, like the Blomberg FNT3661WP whose page lists an open-door beep, you need to find out whether they can be disabled for Shabbat. Check with the importer and your rabbi before buying. A certified Shabbat mode is found mainly on large fridges, such as 4-door models.

Warranty per product pages:

  • Blomberg: 1 year, through Ralco.
  • Premier: 1 year, through S.G.
  • General: 1 year, through Hidur Mutzarim.
  • Crown and DeLonghi: 1 year, through Newpan.
  • Normande: 1 year, Clinton warranty certificate.

With a freezer, a fault discovered late costs you thawed food. So it is important to know in advance who provides service and how fast.

Delivery: a 6-drawer freezer of ⁦43–73⁩ kg usually fits through a standard door. After delivery, let it stand before plugging it in as the manual instructs, and let it reach temperature before adding food. Delivery times we saw: ⁦7–10⁩ business days.

Second-hand: used freezers sell cheaply, but an old freezer usually uses more electricity, has no warranty, and a fault shows up only when the food has already thawed. If you do buy used, check that the seals are intact, that there is no uneven ice and that the compressor is not especially noisy, and run it empty for a full day before adding food.

Door direction: the Blomberg FNT3661WP page states that the door can be reversed. On a narrow service balcony where the freezer stands against a wall, this matters: a door opening toward the wall will not let you pull the drawers all the way out.

Bottom line: which freezer we recommend

For a family with ⁦71 cm⁩ of width: the Blomberg FNT3661WP with 220 liters and No Frost; for a second freezer on a low budget: the Premier PF162W; for a storeroom or batch cooking: a chest freezer like the General GE270MCIX.

  • Main freezer opened every day: 6-drawer freezer with No Frost, ⁦200–220⁩ liters.
  • Second freezer for Shabbat and holidays: small 6-drawer freezer with semi-automatic defrost, ⁦156–175⁩ liters.
  • Narrow service balcony: ⁦54–⁦55 cm⁩⁩ wide, height to fit the space.
  • Wide, low space: a ⁦71 cm⁩ wide model ⁦151.5 cm⁩ high, or a chest freezer.
  • Batch cooking, events, very large family: a chest freezer of 400 liters and up.
  • New kitchen with cabinets: a built-in freezer next to a built-in fridge without a freezer.

If you are still choosing a fridge, start with our best refrigerator guide: sometimes a 4-door fridge with a large freezer or a small fridge with a freezer covers the need. For other home appliances, see our best washing machine and best dishwasher guides.

What to ask before ordering: net capacity, exact dimensions including the handle, defrost type, consumption in kWh per day or year, climate class, door opening direction and whether it can be reversed, the warranty provider's name, and delivery time. If any of these is missing from the product page, ask before paying, especially if the model is marked temporarily out of stock and you are offered an alternative.

The bottom line

Family capacity: ⁦160–220⁩ liters (about ⁦5.7–7.8⁩ cu ft). 6-drawer upright: ⁦54–⁦71 cm⁩⁩ wide, ⁦141–⁦171 cm⁩⁩ high.

FAQ: best freezer in Israel

How much does a freezer cost in Israel?

Per store prices in November 2026, a 6-drawer freezer with semi-automatic defrost costs about ₪⁦1,050–1,200,⁩ a 6-drawer No Frost freezer about ₪⁦1,700–2,700,⁩ and a chest freezer of about 200 liters about ₪⁦1,650–1,750.⁩

Which is better, a 6-drawer upright or a chest freezer?

A 6-drawer freezer is more convenient: organized drawers, less floor space and sometimes No Frost. A chest freezer gives more liters per shekel and suits large quantities, but you have to bend down and defrost manually.

What are the dimensions of a 6-drawer freezer?

Per the product pages we saw, narrow models are ⁦54–⁦55 cm⁩⁩ wide and ⁦141–⁦171 cm⁩⁩ high, and a wide model is ⁦71 cm⁩ wide and ⁦151.5 cm⁩ high. Depth is ⁦54.7–⁦60 cm⁩⁩.

Is a No Frost freezer worth it?

Yes, if the freezer is opened every day. No Frost saves manual defrosting and keeps the full capacity. In a second freezer that is opened rarely, semi-automatic defrost is enough and saves a few hundred shekels.

How many liters of freezer do I need?

Second freezer for a family: ⁦160–220⁩ liters (about ⁦5.7–7.8⁩ cu ft). Cooking and freezing for a week or two: 200 liters and up. Batch cooking or events: a chest freezer of 400 liters and up.

Is there a small freezer?

The lowest upright freezers we saw start at about ⁦141 cm⁩ high and about 160 liters. Below that there are mainly small chest freezers, like the 99-liter General GE101MCS, or a freezer compartment in a small fridge.

Can I put a freezer on a service balcony?

Yes, it is common in Israel, but in a shaded, ventilated spot, away from a dryer and direct sun. Check the climate class in the spec, because in summer the freezer will work harder.

How much electricity does a freezer use?

It depends on the model. Per the Normande NF-426 product page, ⁦0.9 kWh⁩ per day, which is about ⁦330 kWh⁩ a year by our calculation. Many cheap freezer pages do not list consumption, so it is worth asking.

Can a chest freezer work as a fridge?

Some models can. Per the product page, the General GE270MCIX switches at the press of a button between a fridge at 6°C and a freezer at -24°C.

Is there a freezer with Shabbat mode?

The freezer pages we saw do not mention a Shabbat mode. For a freezer with an open-door alert, display or fan, check with the importer and your rabbi what is needed before buying.
