1 HP Air Conditioner in Israel: Which Model to Buy and the Cost Installed
A 1 HP air conditioner delivers about 9,000 BTU and suits a room of up to about 13 m² (140 sq ft) on a mid-level floor, or up to about 11 m² (118 sq ft) on a top floor with a sunny window. (Israeli stores size ACs in “horsepower”, koach sus, where 1 HP ≈ 9,000 BTU/h, about three-quarters of a US ton.) In Israeli stores we saw 1 HP inverter ACs from official importers at about ₪990–2,000 (NIS) before installation, and with standard installation the total usually comes to about ₪1,800–3,300.
We won’t repeat the full size table here (it’s in our guide on how many horsepower an AC needs). Here you’ll find what you need to buy: which 1 HP models are on sale now, how they differ per the specs, what matters in a bedroom, what a price with installation includes, and when to step up to 1.25 HP. We didn’t test the ACs ourselves: the comparison is based on spec sheets and prices published at Israeli stores in November 2026.
The short answer
Air conditioners, November 2026- About 8,500–9,900 BTU depending on model
- Up to about 13 m² (about 11 m² on a top floor)
- About ₪990–2,000
- About ₪800–1,400
- 5.5–7.3
- Single-phase, 10-amp breaker on most models
- 1–7 years, by importer and series
Models worth checking
Picked on specs, Israeli importer warranty and shop prices in Israel in November 2026. We did not test them at home. Prices change, check before you buy.
Electra Relax Inverter 140
1 HP, 9,365 BTU cooling, 11,020 BTU heating, SEER 6.2, SCOP 4.52, Shabbat mode, WiFi
Why: The lowest price we saw for a 1 HP AC from a major importer, and per the specs its heating is higher than its cooling. The product page lists Shabbat mode certified by Mishmeret HaShabbat.
Watch out: One-year warranty per the store page, and no noise figures. In the bedroom of someone sensitive to noise, ask for the full spec sheet.
Tadiran Air One INV 140
1 HP, 9,840 BTU cooling, 8,840 BTU heating, SEER 6.9, SCOP 3.8, Shabbat mode, WiFi
Why: The highest cooling figure we saw among 1 HP models, with SEER 6.9, Shabbat mode and a 5-year warranty badge on the store page.
Watch out: SCOP of 3.8 and heating is lower than cooling. For anyone who heats a lot in winter, the Platinum INV 150 is more efficient at heating per the specs.
Tadiran Solo 140 INV
1 HP, 8,530 BTU cooling (range 2,390–10,230), 9,550 BTU heating, SEER 6.8, SCOP 4.1, WiFi
Why: The inverter range drops to about 2,390 BTU, so in a small room it can run at low, quiet output, with SEER 6.8 and a 5-year warranty badge.
Watch out: Nominal cooling is below 9,000 BTU. For a 13 m² room or a top floor, choose a stronger model. Shabbat mode isn’t mentioned on the page.
Electra Platinum INV 150
1 HP, 9,600 BTU cooling, SEER 7.3, SCOP 5.1, R32 refrigerant, indoor unit 37 dB at high speed, WiFi
Why: SEER 7.3 and SCOP 5.1 are the highest efficiency figures we saw in the category. With daily use, the price difference is partly offset on the electricity bill.
Watch out: Shabbat mode isn’t mentioned on the product page, and one store showed a one-year warranty. Check the warranty terms before buying.
Mitsubishi SRK25ZSP
8,530 BTU cooling (2.5 kW), 9,553 BTU heating, indoor unit 23–45 dB by speed, rating A, R410A
Why: One of the only models we found with a full noise table: 23 dB at the lowest speed per the store page, and a 3-year importer warranty.
Watch out: More expensive than the local brands, nominal cooling below 9,000 BTU, and per the page SEER 5.5 and the older R410A refrigerant. WiFi and Shabbat mode aren’t mentioned.
Prices in Israel: Air conditioners
A kids’ room or study; you get an inverter with Shabbat mode and sometimes WiFi, but with SEER around 6 and no published noise figures.
Most bedrooms; SEER of 6.8–6.9, WiFi and a longer importer warranty on some series.
A bedroom where the AC runs every night and in winter too, or anyone looking for a particularly quiet unit with a published noise figure.
Price ranges seen in Israeli shops and price-comparison sites in November 2026, VAT included, usually without installation.
What to look at before buying
| What to check | What it is | Our recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Actual BTU, not the label | Models marketed as 1 HP actually deliver between about 8,500 and about 9,900 BTU in cooling. | In a 12–13 m² room, prefer a model with 9,300 BTU or more. In a room smaller than 10 m², even 8,500 BTU is enough. |
| Indoor unit noise | In a bedroom, this is the figure you feel every night. Most store pages don’t publish it. | Look for a decibel figure at low speed. Under 30 dB is considered very quiet. If there’s no figure, ask the seller. |
| Efficiency (SEER and SCOP) | SEER measures cooling efficiency over the summer and SCOP measures heating efficiency in winter. | An AC that runs 8 hours every night justifies a SEER of 6.8 or higher. For heating in Jerusalem or the Galilee, look for a SCOP of 4.5 or higher. |
| Heating vs cooling | On some models heating is lower than cooling, and on others higher. | If the AC is the room’s heat source, compare the heating figure in BTU, not just cooling. |
| Shabbat mode | A mode that allows continuous operation on Shabbat. Not every model includes it, and not every model names a certifying body. | If it matters to you, make sure the mode appears on the product page, preferably with certification from a halachic body. |
| Importer warranty | On 1 HP models we saw warranties from one to 7 years, sometimes on condition that you activate it within 30–60 days. | Buy from an official importer (yevuan rasmi), register the warranty right after installation and keep the invoice. |
What room size is a 1 HP air conditioner enough for?
The short answer: a room of up to about 13 m² on a mid-level floor, up to about 12 m² on a top floor, and up to about 11 m² on a top floor with a large sunny window.
The calculation is based on about 650 BTU per m², the same basis used by the calculator on our site, with these additions:
- Shaded mid-level floor: 9,000 ÷ 650 = about 13.8 m².
- Top floor (15% extra): about 12 m².
- Top floor and west-facing window (25% extra): about 11 m².
- Top floor, sun and ceiling above 2.8 m (35% extra): about 10 m².
In practice, most bedrooms and kids’ rooms in Israeli apartments are 9–13 m², so a bedroom AC in most homes is 1 HP. A 9–10 m² mamad (reinforced safe room) almost always does fine with 1 HP, despite limited airflow.
If your room is on the borderline, check the BTU on the spec sheet, not just the label. Among the models we checked, the Tadiran Air One INV 140 delivers 9,840 BTU and the Tadiran Solo 140 INV delivers 8,530 BTU. The difference of about 1,300 BTU is worth about 2 m². For a 14–16 m² room, go to our 1.5 HP air conditioner guide, which also covers 1.25 HP.
A bedroom AC: noise, night mode and placement
In a bedroom, the indoor unit’s noise matters more than a few hundred BTU, but most stores don’t publish it, so you need to ask for the spec sheet.
What we found on the product pages:
- Mitsubishi SRK25ZSP: a full table, 23 dB at the lowest speed and 45 dB at the highest.
- Electra Platinum INV 150: 37 dB at high speed. That’s a good figure, since most ACs are louder at high speed.
- Tadiran Air One INV 140, Solo 140 and Electra Relax 140: no noise figure on the store page.
To sleep quietly with any AC:
- Sleep mode: per the user manuals we checked, the mode gradually changes the temperature during the night. That way the AC works less and more quietly. The remote symbols are explained in our Tadiran AC remote symbols guide.
- Low fan speed: in automatic mode the fan speed rises to high when the room is warm. If the noise bothers you, set low speed manually.
- Placement: don’t install the indoor unit above the bed, so the airflow doesn’t blow straight at your head. Place the outdoor unit away from your bedroom window and the neighbors’ windows.
- Clean filters: a clogged filter forces the fan to work harder. Tadiran recommends cleaning the filter every 250 operating hours, i.e. about once a month in summer with nightly use. The full explanation is in our AC cleaning guide.
Tadiran 1 HP or Electra 1 HP: what’s the difference in the specs?
Both brands have a basic series at about ₪1,000–1,450 and an efficient series at about ₪1,750–2,050. The difference between series is bigger than the difference between brands.
What the specs of the models we checked say:
- Tadiran 1 HP (Air One INV 140): the strongest cooling (9,840 BTU) and SEER 6.9, but SCOP of only 3.8. It suits anyone who uses the AC mainly for cooling.
- Tadiran Solo 140 INV: less BTU, but a wide inverter range suited to a small room, and SCOP 4.1.
- Electra 1 HP (Relax Inverter 140): the cheapest, with 11,020 BTU heating, more than its cooling, and SCOP 4.52. It suits a room that also needs good heating on a low budget.
- Electra Platinum INV 150: the most efficient on both measures (SEER 7.3, SCOP 5.1), with R32 refrigerant and a published noise figure.
Warranty: on the store pages we saw a 5-year badge on the Air One and Solo, and one year on the Relax 140 and Platinum 150. Per Tadiran, you only get the extra warranty years if you register them within 60 days of purchase. A full comparison between the series is in our Tadiran vs Electra air conditioner guide.
How much does a 1 HP AC cost including installation?
In most cases, a 1 HP AC with standard installation costs about ₪1,800–3,300: about ₪990–2,000 for the AC plus about ₪800–1,400 for installation.
According to the professional price list on pro.co.il (an Israeli contractors’ site), installing a wall-mounted AC up to 1.5 HP costs about ₪800–1,400 including VAT, and includes up to 3 meters (10 ft) of copper piping. What makes installation more expensive:
- Extra piping: about ₪120–140 per extra meter per pro.co.il, or ₪100–200 per meter per Tadiran.
- Drilling through a concrete wall: about ₪300–400, and in a mamad or thick wall about ₪600–900.
- Dedicated electrical outlet: about ₪300–1,000 per Tadiran, if there’s no suitable outlet near the AC.
- Removing an old AC: a few hundred shekels. Some installers don’t take away the old unit, so ask in advance.
- Crane: about ₪250 per hour, when there’s no access to the outdoor unit.
When you see a “1 HP AC including installation” deal, ask in writing what’s included: how many meters of piping, whether there’s drilling and an outlet, and whether the price includes removing and disposing of the old AC. Full price details are in our AC installation cost guide.
When is it better to step up to 1.25 HP?
When the room is larger than 13 m², sits under the roof, or faces west without shading. In these cases the price difference is small and the comfort difference is large.
In stores we saw 1.25 HP models like the Electra Relax INV 170 (12,355 BTU) at ₪1,250 and the Tadiran Air One INV 180 (12,180 BTU) at ₪1,656. For the Relax, the difference from the same series’ 1 HP model is about ₪260, and for the Air One about ₪220. For that you get about 2,500–3,000 extra BTU, i.e. about 4 m² more coverage.
On the other hand, an oversized AC in a small room isn’t an advantage. With an inverter the problem is smaller, since the compressor drops to low output, but a big AC reaches temperature quickly and removes less humidity. In a 9–10 m² room, 1 HP is enough even on a top floor.
A practical rule: a room up to 11 m² always takes 1 HP. A 12–13 m² room takes 1 HP on a mid-level floor, and 1.25 HP on a top floor or with sun exposure. From 14 m² up, choose 1.25–1.5 HP.
Electricity and consumption: what does it cost to run a 1 HP AC?
At full power, a 1 HP AC draws about 0.85 kW, i.e. about 54 agorot per hour at the rate of 63.52 agorot per kWh including VAT (the residential rate from July 1, 2026). In practice, an inverter runs at lower output most of the night.
The 0.85 kW cooling figure is taken from the Electra Relax Inverter 140 spec sheet. An 8-hour night at full power would cost about ₪4.3, but once the room has cooled, an inverter AC drops to partial output. So the actual cost is lower and depends on insulation, the temperature you set and the heat outside. The explanation of the difference between an inverter and an old AC is in our inverter AC guide.
On the electrical side, most 1 HP models are single-phase and work with a 10-amp breaker. That’s what appears on the specs of the Air One INV 140, Solo 140 and Relax 140. (Israel runs on 230V/50Hz.) If the AC plugs into a regular outlet, make sure the outlet isn’t shared with a heavy appliance like an electric radiator. If in doubt, call an electrician before installation.
The bottom line
Cooling capacity: About 8,500–9,900 BTU depending on model. Suits a room of: Up to about 13 m² (about 11 m² on a top floor).

FAQ: 1 HP air conditioner Israel
What room size is a 1 HP air conditioner good for?
Based on about 650 BTU per m², a 1 HP AC (about 9,000 BTU) suits a room of up to about 13 m² on a mid-level floor, and up to about 11–12 m² on a top floor or in a room with a large sunny window.
How much does a 1 HP AC cost in Israel including installation?
Usually about ₪1,800–3,300. The AC itself costs about ₪990–2,000 at the stores we checked, and standard installation of an AC up to 1.5 HP costs about ₪800–1,400 per pro.co.il. Extra piping, drilling through concrete and removing an old AC cost extra.
What is the cheapest 1 HP AC?
The cheapest from a major importer that we saw is the Electra Relax Inverter 140, at about ₪990 before installation. The store’s list also showed small Haier and Family ACs at about ₪1,000, but we didn’t check their specs. Either way, check the warranty, since on the cheap models it’s sometimes only one year.
How much does a Tadiran 1 HP AC cost?
At the store we checked, the Tadiran Air One INV 140 cost about ₪1,440 and the Tadiran Solo 140 INV about ₪1,450. Tadiran’s more basic models, like the Amcor 140, sold for about ₪1,000–1,200.
How much does an Electra 1 HP AC cost?
The Electra Relax Inverter 140 sold for about ₪990, the Electra Classic INV 140 for about ₪1,090, and the Electra Platinum INV 150, the most efficient of them, for about ₪1,750–1,900.
Which is the quietest AC for a bedroom?
Among the models we checked, only some have a noise figure on the product page. The Mitsubishi SRK25ZSP lists 23 dB at the lowest speed, and the Electra Platinum INV 150 lists 37 dB at high speed. If there’s no figure on the page, ask the seller before buying.
Is a 1 HP AC enough for a mamad (safe room)?
In most cases, yes. A typical mamad is 9–12 m², and 1 HP covers it even with an allowance for limited airflow. Installation in a mamad costs more because of drilling through concrete, about ₪600–900 per pro.co.il.
What’s the difference between 1 HP and 1.25 HP?
About 2,500–3,000 BTU, i.e. about 4 m² more coverage. In stores the price difference within the same series was about ₪220–260. If the room is larger than 13 m² or under the roof, 1.25 HP will suit it better.
How much electricity does a 1 HP AC use?
Per the Electra Relax Inverter 140 spec sheet, about 0.85 kW at full cooling, i.e. about 54 agorot per hour at the 2026 residential rate. An inverter runs at lower output much of the time, so the actual cost is lower.
Does a 1 HP AC need a special outlet?
Not always. Most 1 HP models are single-phase and work with a 10-amp breaker per the specs. If there’s no outlet nearby or the line is shared with heavy appliances, adding a dedicated outlet costs about ₪300–1,000 per Tadiran.
